The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering was organized as
a component part of Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (KPI) in 1898.
Today Institute of Mechanical Engineering (former
Faculty of Mechanical Engineering) consists of 8 departments, several
scientific, experimental, metrological and computer laboratories, Certificate
Centre for metal- and wood-working equipment and mechanical engineering
produce, Scientific Test Centre named "Reliability" and Join Ukraine-German
centre of Mechatronics. The professors of the IME have much experience of
pedagogical and scientific activity.
There are 40 DSc'S in engineering full, professors; 80 PhD's in engineering,
associate professors and also more than 60 leading experts from production
institutions among them.
Almost 2300 full part-time and correspondence students,
with 80 foreigners among them study at the IME. Modern technical facilities for
study on the base of computer automatic designing systems provide for training
specialists of excellent quality. Annually the IME graduates about 350
graduates mechanical engineers. It is of practical help to industrial
enterprises introducing new ideas into industry.
The IME educates the specialists of three
standards of study:
Bachelor Degree Program (term of study - 4 years);
Master Degree Program (term of study - 2 years);
as well as specialists of the highest skills: Candidates (PhD), and
Doctor of Science (DSc).
There are three Academic Councils conferring doctor and
candidate degrees of technical sciences.
In a 2002 on the basis of Institute of Mechanical
Engineering, Faculty of Welding and Faculty of Physical Metallurgy the Join
Ukraine-German faculty NTUU "KPI" and Otto-von-Guericke University of Magdeburg
is created with the purpose of co-education of the specialists on all
mechanical engineering specialities.
Department of Pre-admission education acts at the MEI to improve the
educational standard of youth before entering KPI and brings the school youth
into clearly understood future professional job.
